John marsh is attempting a dangerous swamp crossing. he is taking a shortcut that is too shallow to float his boat, so he has to navigate the deep, treacherous mud, pulling his boat behind him. the bottom is unpredictable at best, and non-existent at worst. normally, he can rely on his buoyancy to keep him afloat as he slogs, crawls and swims through the sucking mud. after a long, grueling slog, he steps into a pool of quicksand that looks exactly like all the other mud he has been traversing. however, he soon discovers that he is no longer floating, but instead, he is being pulled deeper into the insidious muck. before he even has time to consider a strategy, he is pulled under the surface, leaving only bubbles. this is a very short clip. it is, essentially, just a setup for a very quick quicksand scene that lasts only a minute.
