Being tied and left on a bench while her captors go off and do fun things is something that maria was not expecting.  normally, there were other torments involved, but not tonight.  tonight, she's been abandoned and ignored, and she is feeling sad about it.  sad that she's not getting any attention, even if it is something she doesn't want to deal with. sad because she is bored out of her mind. but maria is mostly sad thinking about the prospect of her being left here without end.  were they going to leave her here to simply expire? it's a terrible and horrible proposition, but one that was not outside the realm of possibility.  maria's eyes watered as she thought of that last outcome, and soon a tear leaked out onto her face.
