Aquaphilias- Sea Jewel- Gets ATTACKED and PULLED UNDER by the pool hose- PERIL
Sea jewel floated on her back, eyes closed in the dazzling glare, letting herself become a weightless speck adrift in the pool’s sky-blue expanse. the cheap plastic unicorn beneath her squeaked with every tiny shift of her body, its rainbow mane warm and slick with sunscreen. she exhaled, feeling the sun flatten her, a comfortable, sticky lethargy pressing down on her eyelids. the world was white above, blue beneath, and the thin border where they met shimmered with the perfume of chlorine and cut grass. sea jewel let her arms dangle in the water, convinced she could have drifted there forever, summer’s perfect fossil, if only nothing changed. something changed. a sudden, cold constriction encircled her left ankle. she flinched, instinctively curling her leg, but the grip tightened with a living resolve. before she could suck in a full breath, a powerful tug yanked her from the float, upending her in a tangle of limbs and startled yelp. her mouth snapped shut around a last gasp of air as she plunged, the water closing over her like a guillotine. the world inverted—sun above turning to wavery blue, air to dense, muffling silence. the unicorn float tumbled beside her, useless and absurd. it was the pool’s vacuum hose, a long, churning python, intent on a single, terrible mission. it had wrapped itself around her shin and foot, its segmented mouth gnawing at her as it wrenched her downward. she thrashed, panic rising in her throat, but the more she fought, the tighter its grip became, looping and constricting with slow, mechanical patience. her lungs began to ache, the burning pressure intensifying with every frantic second. she clawed at the surface, saw it rippling far above, unreachable behind a curtain of bubbles. her hands flailed for the ladder, the edge, anything, but each movement only tangled her further in the hose’s length. the pool’s silence became total, the world of grown-ups and shouts and music replaced by a low, thrumming pulse in her ears. the colors around her sharpened into a crystalline, alien clarity: sunlight fracturing in shards across the tiles, the wavering green smudge of the neighbor’s hedge, her own blue toenails flashing desperately. her chest convulsed. she kicked hard, aiming for the bottom, a last desperate gambit. the hose refused to release her, but something—an errant paddle, a lucky twist—loosened its bite for a moment. she fought upwards, every muscle burning. the water seemed to thicken, to resist her like a living thing. she opened her mouth involuntarily, the taste of chlorine flooding in, her vision spangling with fireworks and creeping blackness. and then: the panic subsided. her limbs went slack, a strange peace coiling through her bones. the cold water felt almost pleasant, the sunlight above impossibly beautiful. the vacuum’s grip became gentle, almost affectionate, as if it simply wanted to hold her there, in the blue quiet, forever. she stopped fighting. she let herself drift, suspended in the slow-motion hush, watching the surface drift further away. the world narrowed to a pinpoint of light, flickering and soft. when she woke, she was lying on her side beside the pool, coughing up bitter water. something heavy pressed rhythmically against her back. the air was dense with noise: voices, footsteps, a distant wail. she blinked, her vision doubled and smeared with blue, and saw a circle of faces hovering above her, blurred and bloated with worry. xoxoxo kelli
